On August 19, 2024, OILWATCH International began the first day of an inspiring and impactful conference in eThekwini, South Africa. The event brought together a diverse array of voices and organizations, including Groundwork, SDCEA, HOMEF, Green Connection, and communities from around the globe, to advance our shared mission for environmental justice. We celebrated the strength and resilience of local communities who are at the forefront of the fight for environmental and social justice. Their stories and solutions are fuelling our collective efforts.
On the second day, On August 20th, 2024, OILWATCH AFRICA held its Annual General Meeting, and we are excited to share the remarkable outcomes and reflect on the journey we’ve undertaken. We’ve made significant progress in advocating for responsible oil and gas practices, leading to impactful policy changes and heightened awareness. Strengthened Alliances: Our partnerships with local and international stakeholders have grown stronger, enhancing our ability to drive change and foster collaborative solutions. Community Empowerment: Our initiatives have empowered communities across Africa, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to protect their environments and advocate for their rights.
On Day 3, SDCEA and Oilwatch Africa held an amazing event, at Grunter Gully, Bayhead. A day filled with excitement and insights! A Fishing Tournament which showcased incredible skill and sportsmanship among substance fisherfolk who shared stories of fishing to maintain their livelihoods whilst engaging in the tournament.
On August 22, 2024, the SDCEA, Fishnet Alliance, KZN Substance Fishers Forum, HOMEF, and Oilwatch convened in Durban for a pivotal Fishnet Alliance annual meeting. This year’s gathering saw the inclusion of new members and representatives from additional African countries, strengthening our collective voice.
